At the beginning of the year, we experienced a special milestone at LIME: The first AnyHand for home use was delivered! In the meantime, our hand therapy robot has been in use for many weeks, so that we can draw a first conclusion together with the patient concerned: "My physiotherapist is very enthusiastic because the wrist is much looser and more mobile - that makes me very happy!
Training with the AnyHand in Home Use
The AnyHand as an additional therapy
Heike experienced a serious traffic accident a few years ago. The massive injuries she sustained healed well on the outside. However, she was left with nerve damage in her left arm, which still restricts her mobility, especially in her hand.
"Occupational and physiotherapy helped me a lot to cope with the potential I had. However, as my hand discomfort has increased recently, I started looking for additional therapy." Heike's main aim was to prevent deterioration of mobility and reduce swelling in the fingers through continuous movement. "Despite the discomfort in my hand and arm, I can still manage without painkillers. That is important to me and I want to keep it that way."
Heike came across AnyHand in a newspaper article and saw it as a chance to train her left hand on a daily basis. "A friend sent me the article. That aroused my curiosity and I researched the product, contacted Pascal Lindemann. After initial information, trying it out on site, and an examination and consultation withDr. Hanke at the University Hospital in Mainz, it was clear to me: this is worth a try!"
Hand therapy at home - several times a day, every day
How does the application of the AnyHand work at home? After it had been clarified in advance that Heike's individual situation was suitable for use with the AnyHand, the day of delivery arrived after a few weeks: co-founder Pascal brought the AnyHand directly to Heike's home, who had already made the best arrangements: "I had gotten myself a small, height-adjustable side table on which I could place the AnyHand," she says.
On Heike's height-adjustable table, the AnyHand can be optimally positioned
After a detailed introduction with official product training on the setting options, safety precautions and test run, it was time to start the first therapy at home the next day: "It reminded me a little of the first drive with the car many years ago, with a fresh driving licence and without a driving instructor sitting next to me."
By using the AnyHand at home, two therapy sessions a day are possible every day of the week. As an addition to the usual rotation of two sessions per week in occupational or physiotherapy, the use of the AnyHand in home use increases the weekly therapy time many times over.
The AnyHand is connected to the laptop in order to set the therapy in the associated app.
The first weeks of therapy in Home Use have already passed - how is everyday life with the therapy device and above all: how is Heike's hand? "The wrist has already become more mobile," reports Heike. "That's why I want to continue exercising every day and gradually increase the range of motion in my fingers.
The whole team at LIME is happy that Heike is sharing her experiences with us so actively and can already feel an improvement. We wish her that the goals of the therapy come true and that she can continue to notice progress!
