The mission of AnyHand is, among other things, to improve hand mobility. The causes for a restriction of movement can be very diverse. Typical are hand injuries like broken fingers, tendon injuries or neurological syndromes like CRPS. But also in the case of a stroke [1] stroke, a hand is often affected as well. Today we talk to Jörg: He has already had the AnyHand at home for two months and tells us about his training with the AnyHand.
Jörg trains his hand with the AnyHand at home
Dear Jörg, thank you first of all for taking the time today to share your story with us. How did the impairment of your hand come about?
I suffered a stroke about 2 years ago, which left me paralyzed on one side. So nothing worked anymore. Bit by bit with many different therapies my condition improved and so I wanted to tackle my immobile hand next.
You received special hand therapy for that?
That's right, I had physiotherapy and my physiotherapist pointed out to me that there was a device - the AnyHand - with which you can train your hand every day. That sounded promising, because I wanted to take advantage of every opportunity to improve my mobility and thus make my everyday life easier.
How did the AnyHand come to your home then?
I simply wrote to you - LIME - and the process could start. First, your colleague Johannes visited me at home and introduced the AnyHand. The AnyHand looked good, that could fit me, I thought, and thereupon decided that I would like to try it out.
What was it like when you decided to use the AnyHand? Did you get along well with the operation at home?
Johannes took a lot of time during the delivery: Together we adjusted the AnyHand to my hand size and fingers, as well as determining the type of therapy, and other setting options. This meant that it was already set up for me and after a short familiarization period, I got along well with the AnyHand.
How do you actually use the AnyHand in your everyday life?
I use it every day usually 2 to 3 times depending on my daily routine. One therapy session is 20 minutes long.
And is that working well for you?
Yes of course!
Do you already feel changes in the mobility of your hand?
The mobility has definitely improved. I can now stretch my hand stretch my hand almost completely, which was not possible before. In general, I use many different therapies. But I'm sure that the AnyHand has helped a lot, simply because I can train with it so often.
That sounds like a great success. Were there any questions in between?
Now and then there was a question or I needed support. There is a chat group for this since the beginning of the rental, in which I can then simply write directly. That always went in a jiffy, there is always a response.
Thank you Jörg for your openness. We wish you continued success with your therapy!
[Note: Many stroke patients have high muscle tone in the affected hand. Since the AnyHand works with limited force for safety reasons, it is more suitable for patients with flaccid paralysis.
